    The name "Litanga"

“Litanga”  in Lingala, one of the 4 national languages of the Democratic Republic of Congo – means "a drop", referring to water as a symbol of welcome, energy, strength and life.

At the same time, with this symbol we want to express the awareness that the needs to be met are enormous, for which the collaboration of all is required, but that nevertheless every drop of water, every action and initiative of solidarity, is a contribution not to be underestimated that can result in a great good for individuals and for the community. As Mother Teresa of Calcutta said, "What we do is only a drop in the ocean but if we did not do it the ocean would have one drop less".

"Litanga" is an invitation to everyone to become that drop of water that can make a difference in our society that has so much thirst for solidarity, justice and peace

    OBJECTIVES of the ASSOCIATION

    General Objective
To promote the integral human development of individuals and communities, especially in situation of vulnerability, without discrimination.

    Specific Objectives

Respond effectively to the needs of the population through targeted initiatives that can be grouped into 3 areas: health, training and education, social development.

    "Litanga" therefore aims to,

    At the health level:

    • Sensitize and educate the population (proper hygiene and other appropriate measures) to minimize the spread of tropical diseases and not only (such as leprosy, malaria, tuberculosis, typhoid, yellow fever, etc.), in a country where the health system is very fragile.
    • Provide medicines, equipment, tests, vaccines, both for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases, including neglected mental illnesses.
    • Build health infrastructure (laboratories, dispensaries, health centers and hospitals) or rehabilitate dilapidated ones.

At the training and educational level:

    • Guarantee young people the right to education in respect of the fundamental values of the person (building schools, distributing school and teaching materials, supporting the studies of the most vulnerable children, including distance adoption).
    • Promote the learning of trades for vulnerable young people (street children, children working in mines, child soldiers) in the fields of carpentry, tailoring, cooking, construction, agriculture, mechanical and/or engineering industry, electronics, information technology, etc.
    • Actively contribute to information and education, in particular of the weakest and most disadvantaged groups such as women with regard to participation in democracy, access to human rights, security, contribution to peace and conflict resolution.

    At the social level:

    • Carry out nutritional activities for thousands of malnourished children and mothers, care and nutritional support.
    • Train in good practices and rehabilitate water wells and latrines.
    • Provide food and seeds to farmers and develop techniques for cultivating, processing, storing and selling products.
    • Promote the breeding of livestock, poultry and fish.
    • Support initiatives to combat climate change, through reforestation and anti-erosion activities.
    • Protect the dignity of orphaned children (especially those of parents who died from HIV, Ebola, Covid and other pandemics) and their social integration.
    • Bring help to people with disabilities, displaced persons and refugees, prisoners, victims of human rights violations, including in collaboration with international partners.
    • Promote initiatives aimed at restoring dignity to widows (especially women), abandoned elderly people, single mothers by giving them opportunities for vocational training and work.
    • Offer alternatives to young people to fight crime and prevent them from falling into the traps and networks of criminal gangs that create violence and insecurity.
    • Build infrastructure to achieve the above-mentioned objectives (technical schools, shelters for vulnerable people, etc.).
